I haven’t posted anything new to my blog in about 9 months. The reason for this is because I thought my blog isn’t about any single topic that I would never be successful with it. Everything I read about blogging says you must pick a niche for your blog to become successful with it.
In the past few years I have published posts on various topics including:
These topics are very diverse but they have one thing in common, stuff that I care enough about to write many blog posts.
Recently I stumbled across a blog post that changed my outlook. It was a post on lifestyle blogging, something I have never seen discussed before. From reading this post I discovered that maybe I could just blog about whatever I wanted and I didn’t need to focus on one particular topic. I’m not sure if I meet the technical definition of a lifestyle blogger, but that isn’t going to stop me from blogging about a variety of topics.
So here I am writing my first blog post in 9 months. Is this my return to blogging? I don’t know, but I’m going to see if I can publish more consistently with at least one new blog post each month and see what happens. At its peak, the traffic to this blog was 10 times what it is today. But that was when I was actually adding new content to my blog. Since most of my traffic is from a google search I suspect google penalizes your traffic when your blog becomes stale. It will be interesting to see if by publishing one new blog post each month if my traffic will return to previous levels.
I already have a few topics in mind to write about in future blog posts. So I have completed the hard part of figuring out what to blog about. Now I just need to sit down and actually write some new blog posts over the coming months. Hopefully by starting to consistently blog more, I will get in a habit of doing so and I will continue to consistently create new content for a long time.
